Dial Backup
The OPEN524R provides a backup route to the Internet in the event of failure of your Broadband service. This can ensure that essential applications such as financial transactions, remote management or email are maintained through a Broadband outage.

There are a number of levels of protection:
- Service diversification
A standard dialup modem, connected to the telephone line provided with your Broadband service, protects against failure of your Broadband service at the network provider. However, this does not protect against a line failure.
- Service and Line diversification
Use an ISDN line, or standard telephone line separate from your Broadband service, to protect against both Broadband service and line failure. This is an ideal for cable connections where a separate telephone line is usually available.
Simple and effective dial backup:
- Uses ICMP (ping)
The OPEN524R allows you to select a web site or IP host to ‘ping’ at regular intervals to confirm your Internet connection.
- Configurable failure tolerance
You can configure the number of unsuccessful ‘ping’ attempts allowed before the backup line is activated. The OPEN524R will monitor the Broadband connection while the backup line is in use, and will automatically restore the Broadband service once it is verified to be available.
By combining Broadband and ISDN services, a high level of security can be achieved whilst maintaining good access speeds even in backup mode. The OPEN524R is delivered pre-configured to operate with the OPEN NT1 Plus II supplied with Telstra ISDN services.
