iConnectDSL Automated Installation of DSL Services

iConnectDSL facilitates the turn-up of a Broadband service including both computer and router configuration. The iConnectDSL application automatically starts from the CD. It auto-discovers the user’s environment and configures the web browser and email client applications.

Computer

Verify Computer Specification

iConnectDSL inspects the user’s computer hardware and installed software to ensure:

• The user is correctly logged on.
• iConnectDSL is able to execute.
• iConnectDSL is able to configure the system.
• The user’s computer meets the minimum operating environment required to support the Broadband service.
• Wherever possible iConnectDSL assists the user to update the configuration to the required specification.

Configure Computer Network Access

iConnectDSL instructs the user to select interfaces and connect cables from the computer to the router and configures the computer’s Internet settings including:

• Configure Static IP Address.
• Configure dynamic IP Address.
• Handling multiple network cards.
• Check for conflicting IP Addresses.
• Check for conflicting DHCP servers.
• Correct conflicting subnet and IP Address settings.
• Correct incorrect routing information.
• Handle disabled adapters.

Router

Configure Router Settings

iConnectDSL configures the settings used by the router on its local network interface including:

• IP Address and subnet mask.
• DHCP server and address range.

Connection

Configure Network Settings

iConnectDSL instructs the user to select interfaces and connect cables from the router to the DSL line. The router is configured according to the ISP requirements and the user is prompted to enter their username and password if they have not been pre-configured.

The connection is tested and verified including:

• Presence of ISP DNS Servers and Gateway.
• Access to the public Internet.

Applications

Configure Web Browser

The user’s web browser is configured to the ISP settings including:

• Home Page.
• Proxy settings.
• Microsoft Dial up Networking.

Configure System Email

The user’s email client is configured with the required ISP settings including:

• POP Server address.
• SMTP Server address.
• SMTP Authentication.

Configure CPE Security

iConnectDSL automatically secures the router from being configured from the public Internet.
